Import Comments as Markers

Editors often need to incorporate feedback from teammates, producers, or business owners into video sequences. Importing comment markers allows editors and creators to follow the feedback directly in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Producers and teammates can use the Zoom Collection feature to markup and add comments on the timeline of your exports. This is beneficial as Zoom eliminates the need to subscribe to a 3rd party service to review video exports.

However, when creators and editors need to quickly address comments, they will be able to use the create comments as marker feature. This feature was designed for creators and editors to perform 1-click import of their feedback. The feedback is imported into the Adobe Premiere sequence from which the video that is being reviewed was exported. Using the comment markers in the Adobe sequence as the guide, creators and editors can quickly edit around the imported markers.

Before you begin

See the following articles for more information:

Prerequisites

As a creator or editor, the exported video for which you wish to import the markers should be opened in the Adobe plugin. And the sequence that was used to export this video should be set as the active sequence in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Benefits

This feature provides the following benefits:

  • Seamlessly syncs the markers from the comments on the exported files.
  • The markers are synced into the sequence from which it was exported. This helps in quickly iterating over the project based on the comments.
  • Producers and  business owners do not need to send scripts via email with suggested changes on the timeline.
  • Zoom eliminates the need to pay for a 3rd party service to integrate your draft export and review workflows with post-production efforts.

Procedure

  1. Open the project in Adobe Premiere.
  2. Open the Evolphin Zoom plugin panel.
  3. Click the Notifications icon to view the comments.

  1. Click on any comment to open the preview.

  1. Click Create Markers from Comments. The comments are added to the sequence.

  1. Hover over the markers in the sequence to view the comments.

  1. You can also view the markers for these comments by navigating to the Markers tab in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  2. Edit your project as indicated by the markers and save your project.

Results

Markers are imported to the sequence timeline.

Tips & Tricks

Must select an active sequence to add the markers

Why it happens?

The comments will always be imported in the current active sequence in Premiere. You will have to make sure that the sequence from which the file was  exported is the current active sequence.

Zoom does not have the sequence-id information for an exported file. So the plugin cannot find the appropriate sequence before importing the markers..

How to fix?

Users can click and open the active sequence manually before importing the comments.

Known issues with create comments as markers

  • There is no success or error message that is displayed after the markers are added.
  • Private notes are also added as markers; in future fix these notes will be skipped.
  • Editing the comments and re-adding the same markers from comments should change the existing markers, instead new markers are created right now.

Comments without timecode are not added

Why it happens?

Only the comments that are added for a specific timecode will be added as markers. The comments that are added as general comments on frame 0 will be skipped.

When reviewing a sequence, it makes sense to add the comment at a specific timecode.

How to fix?

Add comments for a specific non-zero timecode.
